Sports Broadcasting Update
Good evening Roadrunners and welcome to week 13!
This is the final week of at-home athletics so the we’re looking to get as much film as we can!
The SignUp Genius for this week can be found here
This has been a challenging class for which to make a plan. Lots of students are athletes and many don’t have computers and that makes the day-to-day work just as difficult as the after-school broadcasting work. So I did some brainstorming with Mr. Tauscher and we came up with a solution:
Students had opportunity to sign up for at least one of the four categories of work: Weekly Show, Profile/Bio Writing, Stats/Story Writing, and Announcer Training. Fewer than half the students signed up for a category. I suggest speaking with your child about their choice as I will be assigning the topics so everyone has a job to do.
The weekly show will be filmed and include recapping games w/ scores, stats, standout players; previewing upcoming games; covering specific sports/teams. Bio Writing will include creating templates to use for gathering info, interviewing, taking headshot photos, and writing for our players to use for recruitment purposes; they’ll also be designing programs/handouts for the games too. Stats/Storywriting will be your more traditional news stories such as features and profiles on specific student-athletes. Announcer training is something we’ve been wanting to bring back for a few years. Tasks include pulling rosters, knowing players, positions, and how the games are played; as well as developing our broadcast personality for color commentary and play-by-play.
There is something going on every day this week, last home games for volleyball (JH through Varsity), Flag Football, and Varsity Football Senior Night are all this week. See the SignUpGenius above for the specific times/dates
As always if your student has late/missing assignments please encourage them to get them turned in. I am lenient with the late policy and as long as students turn in quality work it is graded accordingly. HOWEVER, I am not longer accepting work for the first five weeks of school as we are past the four week deadline, week 9 is the first week students can turn late work in for.
What’s going on with Mr. Dudek?
Busy weekend. My 3-year-old started her gymnastics classes. My son had his first soccer game. I started cleaning out my garage and and getting it organized to epoxy the floor and assemble my shelving.
As ALWAYS, if you have any questions, comments, suggestions, or concerns please feel free to reach out to me. Also, if you see errors in the grade book, please email me.
Have a great week Roadrunners,
