Sports Broadcasting Update

Good morning Roadrunners and welcome to week 10!

We had a good first week of the return to athletics and working on our video skills. We’ve been livestreaming the volleyball games on the school’s YouTube channel when I travel and Tuesday last week was the first opportunity students have had to get behind the camera. I received a lot of complements on their camerawork during the stream.

Going forward, the class is shifting gears. We now have our automated cameras installed and will be taking over the “live” aspect of broadcasting. This being said, we’re looking to collect game footage to compile into highlight reels to film our own San Tan version of Sportscenter. This is where the class starts to rev up in terms of the workload. There are a lot of moving pieces and events/activities will start having deadlines. For students to be receiving weekly credit they need to be actively engaged in either video production (filming and recording), stat taking (starting this week), studio work (analysis & announcements), studio camera work, or editing the clips together. Our weekly workload/schedule for production *should* look like this:

Monday: Assign roles (who is covering what event/recording)
Tuesday: Film games
Wednesday: Edit footage & film games (if occurring)
Thursday: Editing & occasional Filming of games
Friday: Football Games (only 3 home games all season)
Saturday: Occasional athletic events
Monday: Finalize w/ footage from Friday/Saturday, last minute edits, assign roles for the next week
Tuesday: Video goes out

This week:
Tuesday: Volleyball home games @ 4(JV) and 5pm(Varsity Senior Night)
Thursday: Volleyball (varsity) @ 4 pm, JH Flag Football @ 4:15pm
Saturday: JH Intramural Volleyball @ 9:30am

As always if your student has late/missing assignments please encourage them to get them turned in. I am lenient with the late policy and as long as students turn in quality work it is graded accordingly. HOWEVER, I am not longer accepting work for the first five weeks of school as we are past the 4 week deadline, week 6 is the first week students can turn late work in for.

What’s going on with Mr. Dudek?
Not much. All of my indoor projects are done, save for the garage which looms over me like a bad omen.

As ALWAYS, if you have any questions, comments, suggestions, or concerns please feel free to reach out to me. Also, if you see errors in the grade book, please email me.

Have a great week Roadrunners,
~Mr. Dudek
