Happy Week 18!

I cannot believe we are only three weeks away from winter break; time sure is flying by!

I’m very pleased with the quality of work being turned in as of late. That being said, please make sure you’re talking with your child about what project their working on for this class. The students are responsible for generating their video/story topics for their weekly work. I’m happy to offer suggestions but the bulk of it is up to them. This week they’re working on opinion videos, interviewing fellow students, teachers, staff about their opinion on a school-appropriate controversial topic ex. is college worth it, opinion about finals, etc. Students at home can do the same with those in the household as a video interview or do a write up on it.

Also, home winter sports games will be starting up next week. I expect students doing in-person to plan on attending the games to either live-stream or do write-ups on the games. For students doing home-based learning I’ll provide the game times and link so you’re able to tune in and write about the games. If you wish to write/film your own thing just touch base with me so I know what you’re working on.

*With 34 students in class I cannot assign 34 different stories each week. Whether it is writing player/coach profiles, student-athlete of the week, preview, recaps, or feature stories, the students are to come up with their topics, conduct interviews, and create their stories.*

They are not restricted to doing written stories either: The studio is open to use before and after school for recording video interviews/broadcasts. Our online students can reach out to coaches, players, look at our MaxPreps pages, and “report from home” using their room as their broadcast studio.

As a reminder, December 11th is the last day to submit missing/makeup work. Anything received after 4pm that Friday will not be graded.

What’s going on with Mr. Dudek?
I had a pretty good Thanksgiving Break. I cooked the turkey via slow-cooker and flavor injection of a herb/spice blend that turned out amazing. We also had a family friend volunteer to take the kids Saturday morning through Sunday evening so I was able to take the wife and baby out for a date night/brunch date. Also got projects done around the house, namely replacing an old ceiling fan with a new one and trimming up my palm trees.

As ALWAYS, if you have any questions, comments, suggestions, or concerns please feel free to reach out.

Have a great week Roadrunners,
~Mr. Dudek
