Film Studies Week 14 Update

 In Film Studies

Good afternoon and welcome to week 14!

It feels good getting back into the routine after half-days, homecoming, field trips, etc. I had to take a day off this week because of a sick kiddo and doctor appointments.

This past week we watched and discussed Coraline. We focused primarily on the literary techniques of the film like foreshadowing as well as the voice acting of the characters. We explored some facts about the film (like how it was originally supposed to be live action) and how those choices impacted the viewing of the film.

Since we’ve explored every genre of animation, we’re going to try our hand at doing voiceover work. The task for the students is to pick a scene from a film or tv show and they are going to record themselves as if they were the actor/actress in the scene. We’ll watch some selected scenes from different animated works such as Cowboy Bebop, My Neighbor Totoro, Who Framed Roger Rabbit, etc., looking at original language subtitled as well as the English dubbed as well.

What’s new with Mr. Dudek?
It was a busy this past weekend with club volleyball tryouts and family in town for the races at Phoenix International Raceway. I also had a ceiling fan start sparking and tripping the fuse so I had that fun project to work on.

Oh, and I told the students this last week: we’re having another baby! Due June of ’22

Have a great week roadrunners!
