Film Studies Week 25

 In Film Studies

Good evening and welcome to week 25!

We finished our study of dark comedy last week; Stranger than Fiction was well received by the students and a good endpoint to the dark comedy segment.

On Friday I assigned a two-page worksheet with questions from our films to have a classroom-led roundtable on the genre. After this, we’ll discuss the next direction the class will go. It’s just as fun for me to see what the kids want to learn as it is to teach, so far they have not disappointed. It would be easy for them to pick modern, popular films but week after week they surprise me with deep, thought-provoking films and topics to discuss and better understand cinema. The only genres we haven’t viewed yet are the action-adventure, fantasy, documentary, and blockbuster. The kids have suggested Who Framed Roger Rabbit and Scott Pilgrim Vs. The World, both of which fall under action/adventure or fantasy. So we’ll see 🙂

What’s new with Mr. Dudek?
It would seem all my weekends are busy these days. Peter had a volleyball game, took Myla to dance class, then took Peter to a birthday party before going to coach a tournament in Tempe. This was all just Saturday. Sunday was relaxing aside from practicing getting up early for the boys volleyball practices, which start Monday morning at 6:30. I can’t believe it’s already here.
Have a great week roadrunners!
