Film Studies Update
Good morning Roadrunners and welcome to week 6!
This week we’re finishing our viewing of the film O Brother, Where Art Thou? by Joel and Ethan Coen. I picked this film because, aside from being one of my top 5 favorites, it is considered an adaptation of sorts. It’s loosely based on the Odyssey by Homer. Whereas The Social Network by David Fincher was based off a book on actual events, O Brother takes a very different approach with reimagining the tale of Odysseus in the 1930’s south.
We’ve had the opportunity to watch comedy and drama, original and adaptation, all the while examining how to write for the screen and create a character. This week we’re going to tackle some exercises that help us build our characters from the ground up and giving them substance.
Films this week: Finishing O Brother, Where Art Thou?
I haven’t decided which film to show next. Maybe I’ll survey the students and see what peaks their interest.
Thank you to you parents who’ve reached out asking about particular films and sharing concerns with content. It’s refreshing to have parents so invested in their child’s education!
What’s new with Mr. Dudek?
Had a somewhat relaxing weekend. Tried a new restaurant (Mr. Mesquite) with the wifey, practiced piano, fixed the baby gate that my Hulk-like children keep breaking. The baby has lots of teeth coming in, my other daughter is getting excited for gymnastics, and my son has only a few weeks of volleyball left in his season. You know, usual dad stuff.
Have a wonderful week Roadrunners!
Mr. Dudek
