Sports Broadcasting Update

Good morning Roadrunners and welcome to week 11!

I hope everyone had a pleasant Fall Break, are feeling well-rested, and rearing to come back.

SignUpGenius Sports Broadcasting Week of 10/12

We’ve begun to gather quite a bit of content and are ready to get into the studio to begin recording our sports announcement pieces. That being said, we need better participation at events by the class as a whole. There are several students who are really putting in the work showing up to events and handling setup but we need more help. As a reminder from the syllabus:

*This class requires time outside of class hours including weekends.*

If we are not sharing the responsibilities I’ll have to begin to assign students to events.

Going forward there will be essentially 4 teams – Camera Crew, Studio Crew, Editing Crew, and Writing Crew. Each crew will have an important part in our production schedule and if any crew doesn’t fulfill their responsibilities then the whole team suffers. Broadcasting is built upon deadlines and we cannot afford to have late work when it comes to production.

For students to be receiving weekly credit they need to be actively engaged in either video production (filming and recording), stat taking and script writing (starting this week), studio work (analysis & announcements), and editing. Our weekly workload/schedule for production *should* look like this:

Monday: Assign roles (who is covering what event/recording)
Tuesday: Film games
Wednesday: Edit footage & film games (if occurring)
Thursday: Editing & occasional Filming of games
Friday: Studio recording and Football Games (only 2 more home games this season)
Saturday: Occasional athletic events
Monday: Finalize w/ footage from Friday/Saturday, last minute edits, assign roles for the next week
Tuesday: Video goes out

This week:
Tuesday: JH Volleyball and Flag Football @ 4:15
Wednesday: JH Flag Football @ 5:15
Thursday: JH Volleyball and Flag Football @ 4:15
Friday: Football Game 7:00
Saturday: JH Intramural Volleyball @ 9:30am, JV Volleyball @ 12pm, Varsity Volleyball @ 1pm

What’s going on with Mr. Dudek?
I had a pretty good break. Replaced a broken garage door opener (not fun), installed a smart thermostat (not fun) but also took the family to Vertuccio Farms just down the road as well as Mortimer Farms up in Dewy-Humboldt for some cooler weather.
