World History/Social Studies Update Week 28

In 7th Grade Social Studies, World History

Good morning and welcome to week 28 Roadrunners!

Last week the students were given two projects to work on while I was out of town: They had to create a modern version of “We Didn’t Start The Fire” by Billy Joel, and create their own bomb shelter. For “We Didn’t Start the Fire,” students were given a packet breaking down the stanzas by year and how they showcased the biggest events of the year. They were then tasked with creating their own version of the song for events from 1991 to the present time. They could pick any four year stretch and requires a bit of research and trial/error to make the lyrics work. For the Bomb Shelter, students had to make a four-point plan for surviving a nuclear fallout. They had to plan supplies, food rules, and design the physical space.

This week we’ll discuss how the current Russia/Ukraine conflict stems from the events of the Cold War, tying together the history of the past to today.

What’s New with Mr. Dudek?
It was my brother’s wedding in Illinois this weekend and my kids and I were in the wedding so we flew out Wednesday and stayed with my mom. Did a bunch of projects for my mom: Installed a couple new light fixtures, garage door keypad, few new outlets, hung up some pictures and curtain rods, etc. The kids got sick on Thursday, Amanda got sick Friday, Mom got sick Saturday morning, so naturally I though I avoided it when I woke up feeling fine Sunday. How wrong I was. Sunday was spent camped out in the bathroom, Monday on the couch, flight got in just before midnight Monday night for me to wake up and come to volleyball practice. Fun times.

Have a great week Roadrunners!
